ETNA VOLCANO PHOTOS

- lava flows from the NNE vent of the South East Crater in May 2001 -

24 May

The glow from the lava flows behind SE cone is seen at night from the terrace og the youth hostel in Nicolosi.

25 May

Last sunrays illuminate a cloud behind the edge of the mountain slope. Steam from Bocca Nuova at sunset. After sunset - SEC in fog and with the glowing lava field behind.

26 May

Monti Silvestri on the way down. The weather further up is not quite as good...

28 May

Making our way along the E flank of the SE cone, we finally reach the vent at the NNE wall ("The Spanish cone"), which is actually an impressive skylight. A large river of lava is flowing beneath our feet.

View on the flow field from the saddle between SEC and Voragine.
